A project for designers to produce modern HTML 5 designs/skins for mojoPortal Content Management System
Making mojoPortal Beautiful
You can think of this project as The mojoPortal Beautification Project. mojoPortal Content Management system is flexible and feature rich software for running your web sites but it is developed by developers not designers. In mojoPortal CMS design is completely de-coupled from functionality so it can be styled in almost limitless ways by good designers. However, in spite of this, people often judge mojoPortal CMS by the included skins and since the few skins that we have been shipping with mojoPortal are created by developers who are not designers we believe that the included skins have not presented mojoPortal as well as we would like. Therefore we invite designers to get involved with this project to help produce some really nice looking modern HTML 5 skins for mojoPortal. Historically we have not had a lot of collaboration from designers and this project is aimed at making it easier to get more designers involved without having to grant commit access to the mojoPortal source code which is the domain of developers.
With this project we can more freely grant access to the repository so that designers can contribute designs and evolve them over time to keep up with any changes or new features in mojoPortal CMS.
Benefits of Contributing to this Project
- The Design can have a link to the designer site
- The Design can be licensed according to your own preferences
- Showcasing your design skills can lead to referrals for design work
- Promote and Support the mojoPortal Project by Showing What is Possible With Good Design
Note that the individual skins provided in this project may have their own licenses determined by the designer and indicated by a file in the skin folder. If no other license is provided then the default project license is Ms-Pl, but a licences specified by the designer supersedes the default project license.
Note also that while this project aims to provide some nice looking skins, not all of the skins will be finished designs, some skins may be intended only as a starting point for further design. The initial skins included here based on Twitter Bootstrap and Zurb Foundation were put together by Joe Audette who is the lead developer for mojoPortal but does not consider himself to be a designer, as such these initial skins are meant only as reference skins that could be used as a starting point for better designers. We invite you to modify them, make prettier versions and contribute them back to this project. We also invite you to make new ones from scratch and provide feedback for improving the ones we have. Once we have some nicer skins we may showcase some of them on the mojoPortal Demo Site
and with your permissions we may ship some of them with mojoPortal.
